This position runs from Feb 2 2026 to June 16 2026 and is renewable pending enrollment and funding. 

There may be some additional days prior to the contract beginning for some training and OYAP information evenings for students and parents. 

Schedule: 

Mondays and Tuesdays - 8:45a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Organizational Relationship: 

Reports to the Training Delivery Agent Coordinator for the Durham Hairstylist Academy

Job Summary: 

The Hairstylist Instructor will be assigned and report to the Durham Hairstylist Academy Training Delivery Agent in the DDSB. The Durham District School Board is an Employment Ontario Service Provider and the Training Delivery Agent for the Accelerated OYAP, Level 1 and Level 2 Hairstylist Apprenticeship program through the Durham Hairstylist Academy (DHA). The DHA is located at 399 Chaleur Avenue in Oshawa (G. L. Roberts CVI). 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Delivery and assessment of the Level 1 and 2 Apprenticeship Curriculum Standard for Hairstylist as regulated by Skilled Trades Ontario  and reported to the Ministry of  Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development at the conclusion of the program.
  • Overall skill sets required for instruction and assessment include but are not limited to: Workplace Health & Safety, Sanitization, Entrepreneurial Skills, Preparatory Procedures and Treatments, Cut and Style, Chemical Relaxing, Straightening and Texture Services as well as Colour Services and Hair Additions 
  • Sound theoretical training to meet the challenges presented in the trade.
  • Fundamental skills of the trade through exposure to practical applications. 
  • In-school delivery that focuses primarily on the knowledge required to master the respective objectives outlined in the Skilled Trades Ontario Training Standards for Hairstylist.
  • Regular evaluation of the apprentices' learning achievements in both theory and practical applications throughout the program, and,
  • Consistency of learning outcomes, expectations and assessment. 
  • Stock ordering, budgeting and supply organization

Qualifications:

1. Hairstylist Certificate of Qualification. 

2. Demonstrated proficiency in the hairstyling field. 

3. Previous instructing experience is an asset

4. Proficiency in the areas of human relations, communication, problem solving and organizational skills. 

5. Ability to take initiative and be creative in delivering meaningful hands-on learning activities. 

6. Ontario College of Teacher Member in Good Standing is an asset
